In my work with children I have observed that even simple movements and coordination exercises often cause problems for children between the ages of four and eight. Children find it difficult to concentrate, through the practice and repetition process, dancing quickly becomes boring and not fun. In order to avoid this and to promote the children’s mobility and joy in dancing, I came up with the idea that gymnastic and coordinative exercises as well as dance choreographies could be taught to children with the help of a large teddy bear as a role model.
The big bear is happy, a bit clumsy, cuddly soft and loving. He illustrates movements, demonstrates the dance steps and is integrated into the game with the children. This makes learning fun and children concentrate better and are more motivated.
The original idea of the project was very much appreciated by the small as well as the big participants. Above all because it not only promoted the mobility of the children, but also the integration process of children with a migration background (and their parents) and generally a respectful and intercultural coexistence of different nationalities.
